Food Additive

As the most abundant mineral in the human body, calcium accounts for 1-2% of body weight with 99% stored in our bones and teeth. The remaining 1% is found in the circulatory system and extracellular fluids where it plays an essential role in numerous physiological functions, including the proper functioning of the cardiovascular, neurological, hematological and neuromuscular systems.

Currently, the major sources for calcium intake are dairy products. However, there is evidence that calcium enrichment in various food products is of limited value because crystallized calcium carbonate, the most commonly used additive, is relatively insoluble and thus poorly absorbed. This is why these supplements have so little impact on systemic calcium levels.

Pre-clinical and clinical studies conducted by Amorphical indicate that Amorphous Calcium Carbonate (ACC) has a much higher absorption rate. Based on these studies, Amorphical is collaborating with a leading international food concern to test the absorption of ACC-enriched dairy products. The company is moving forward with its partners towards the launch of enriched dairy products during 2015.
